2nd Targus Bag July 31, 2010 Clarence Reese This is my second Targus bag and it has been great for me. I had my first for 3 years and even when I got rid of it, it wasn't in that bad of shape. I just felt like getting something different and went with a bag from Bugout. I kept that bag for only a few months and quickly realized how bad I missed my Targus bag and wished I'd kept it so I decided to order a new one. The bag itself is very sturdy and stable. I really like the way it sits up on its own without having to lean up against anything. My old Bugout bag used to fall over with my laptop inside if I didn't prop it up against anything and I hated that. It took a few falls before it became second nature for me to always prop it when my laptop was inside. The side netting pocket on my new Targus bag broke, but I still give it 5 stars with only 4 in construction. I think I just have a fluke because my first had not a single problem, not even after 3 years of me dragging it around the world. Great product. Recommend to all. It carries my 14 pound, 17 inch, Alienware laptop with ease and the straps make it incredibly comfortable on my back.
This is a rugged bag July 27, 2010 Agui2k10 (Trinidad and Tobago) Whenever I travel I use this backpack to store not only my laptop but all my gear...workfiles, stationery, books, clothes, EVERYTHING! I love all the compartments so you can store your stuff separately. This is a rugged bag that takes a lot of licks and all you have to do is give it a wipe down and it is good as new!
Excellent bag for the price July 25, 2010 Robert Moore (Chicago, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My messenger bag finally wore out after several years of use. I decided that I wanted to go with a backpack with broad straps because of a shoulder problem I had developed, partly as a result of using a bag that put undue stress on one shoulder while none at all on the other. And since buying the previous bag I had obtained an 18.5" laptop. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find a bag large enough to carry a laptop that large suitable for everyday use. Does this one? Not quite. I can with difficulty get my laptop in the bag, but only barely. Even as it is, this is a huge backpack. Well not by hiking-through-the-Adirondacks standards, but by commuting to the office ones it is gargantuan.
There are essentially three large storage areas in the bag, along with several small ones. The one in the back, in which the laptop fits, can easily accommodate both the laptop and any accessories you would like to take along. You could easily fit a keyboard, media drive, external DVD player, and much more into it. The next storage space is even larger. The third area is a bit smaller, good for holding files and papers and a couple of books.
One complaint I have with the bag is that there isn't a good place to put the book I read during my commute. Most bags have an easy access place to drop your book into and then get back into when needed. This one doesn't. There is a massive amount of space, but none of it is good for quick access to a book. This might not be an important feature to everyone, but it is for me.
There are a lot of little spaces in the bag that are useful for various odds and ends. There is the standard beverage compartment. There is a space for either an iPod or cell phone, which I frankly find useless. There is a useful outer space into which I put pens and various odds and ends. If there was just a space to pop that book it would be close to perfect.
WARNING! There is one very serious flaw with this bag, one that could potentially lead to a disaster. If you really pack the bag full, the zippers for the two large spaces can open up on their own. I've started the habit of taking a few paper clips with me. If the bag is especially full, I take one of the paper clips and slide it from one of the zipper tabs to the other. Frankly, the bag should have been designed a bit better so that this wouldn't be necessary. It is the reason I don't give this five stars. The bag has popped open three times on me in less than a month.
All in all, I'm very happy with this bag. It is huge, well made, and was a bargain for the cost. If not for the problem with the bag popping open I'd love it.
Excellent find for large laptops July 24, 2010 Dr. J. B. Miller (Columbus, OH USA) 17" laptops are not really designed for travel, so when I needed to take mine on a trip I purchased the Targus XL Backpack. This backpack fits my Dell Inspiron 1720 perfectly. All of my cords stored neatly in the mesh pockets in the computer area of the backpack. Another compartment was great for my portfolio and a sweatshirt. Yet another pocket was an excellent space for my iPad and a hardcover book. And there are even more pockets to describe. Instead of doing that, let me say that the Targus XL Backpack is a great looking, sturdy, comfortable backpack that is perfect for those of us who need to travel with an oversize laptop computer. You'll be thrilled with this product.
Bag for G73 Laptop July 20, 2010 Raymond V. Lewis Teh G73 is a very large 17" Laptop. Standard 17" bag will not handle it. This back pack handles it perfectly. Easy to get it in and out in the proper sleeve area. The only thing I am not fond of is the front fold down area. Not a big deal but I could do with out it. It is a great back pack though. So glad I could find it. Great price too. Compare it to in store prices. Easily a good deal.
